Corporate Communication Director

The Director, Worldwide Communications for Africa and the Middle East is responsible for leading strategic communications and issues management in the Africa/Middle East region. The position will work closely with the Regional President for Africa and the Middle East, the regional leadership team and other Emerging Markets communications colleagues. The position reports to the Head of Communications, Emerging Markets, and is based in Dubai, UAE. Key accountabilities • Drawing on communications expertise within Company, lead development of, and serve as the single point of accountability for, strategic communications and issues management in the region o Provide strategic communications leadership and counsel to Regional President and other senior management o Execute initiatives in concert with others representing Company, promote Company’s reputation and protect its corporate brand identity within the region • Drive Emerging Markets priorities regionally through communications o Create and execute on an integrated strategic communications plan for the region that includes planning/tactics for all markets and functions:  Colleague communications  Leadership communications  Multi-media communications  Coordination with Media Relations and IR on key external communications  Stakeholder communications o Coordinate and liaise with in-country communicators, build competency within local markets o Provide direction on external stakeholder and internal communications, including communications plans, speeches and presentations o Provide guidance and support on crisis communications issues faced in the region o Provide communications support for priority Emerging Markets initiatives  Global Access  Philanthropy initiatives  Counterfeiting  Intellectual property rights  Other region-specific healthcare issues • Work closely with Emerging Markets Communications Lead and effectively in cross-functional teams and markets to advance communications strategy • Align with Commercial Leads regarding regional brand plan development, execution • Track performance and budget versus the established communications plan Qualifications, Experience & Skills • B.S. or B.A. in English, Communications or a related field. Graduate with a degree in Communications or a related discipline such as Journalism/PR, Media or relevant business qualification, such as JD preferred. Global experience a plus. • At least 5 plus years experience in developing and managing a broad range of communications projects within an organization. • Excellent written and oral communication skills. • Demonstrated skills in developing, managing and delivering communication strategies and plans in a large, complex organization. • Understanding of how to effectively use communications to influence internal and external audiences. Experience with a management of intranet or internet. • Able to work effectively across functions and levels; strong interpersonal and leadership skills. • Ability to align and integrate communication strategy with business strategy. • Candidates currently living in Dubai will be an asset • Exceptional analytical, presentation and interpersonal skills. • Highly developed influencing and negotiating skills. • Strong analytical, planning, attention to detail, and prioritizing skills. • Customer-focused/led by stakeholder needs. • Ability to work to deadlines and maintain high levels of professionalism under pressure. • Experience in communications within the legal and/or healthcare/pharmaceutical sector preferred.
